If your current website isn't performing as well as you would like, it could be time to update it. Redesigning a tired website doesn't just give you the opportunity to apply a fresh, new look to the online face of your business. You also have the opportunity to tweak and improve any areas that may be hindering your success.
Here are some quick tips to keep in mind when updating your website:
When visitors arrive on your site, they immediately want to access information about your products or services, your organization, and your brand. Ensure you provide plenty of good quality content that is relevant to your target audience.
If you have any pages on your site that are loaded with plenty of images, such as gallery pages or product catalog pages, try to ensure there is still relevant content displayed too.
Someone visiting your website for the first time will have no idea where they're supposed to go next, unless you make it abundantly clear. Lead your visitors to your content pages and conversion pages with clear navigation and calls to action. Make it easy for them to find the content they want and they'll follow.
Mobile Responsive Design
Statistics indicate that more Google searches were conducted on mobile devices than on desktop or laptop computers in 2015. If your site doesn't automatically adjust sizes to suit a mobile device, chances are your visitors will click over to your competitor's website instead. Choose a mobile responsive website design that makes it easy for your visitors to navigate around your site using a smartphone or mobile device.
Encourage User Interaction
People want to feel as though their opinions are being heard, so make it easy for them to interact with you and your organization. Encourage visitors to your website to like or share your content. Prompt them to leave a comment voicing their opinions.
Lead them to your social media pages and ask for their feedback on your products or services. When you encourage user interaction, your business appears more approachable, which helps to build trust in the minds of prospective customers.
Search Engine Optimization
While you're updating your website, take some time to tweak your search engine optimization (SEO) efforts. If you're using a content management system like WordPress, you can add a simple SEO plugin that lets you check what might be updated on each page to improve your potential rankings.
Consider updating your title tags, content and descriptions to strengthen the search terms people use to find your site. If you have images on your content pages, update your alt tags too.
There are always plenty of things to consider when redesigning any website. While it may seem like a daunting task initially, keep in mind that updating your site could result in increased customer inquiry, which could in turn lead to a boost in sales.
